Hi! I'm Chase, a third-year Biology major at the University of Maryland. I started my first year at community college, but after a poor experience, I knew I had to transfer to a university. Since transferring to UMD, my college experience has been nothing short of amazing. I'm involved in organizations such as the Ski Club, where we take weekly trips to local mountains during the winter. I'm also heavily involved in intramural sports -- still have yet to win a championship... Nonetheless, there is something for everyone on this campus. I'd be happy to show you around campus and share my college experience.

Describe your college experience

I started off my college career at a community college and had a poor experience. There was no sense of community, hardly any clubs, and rarely had events. During that first year I knew I had to transfer to a university to maximize my college years. Since transferring to the University of Maryland, I have been granted opportunities otherwise not possible at community college. I have met amazing people and found a sense of belonging. There is always something to do on campus whether it be through clubs, organizations, etc. My experience at UMD has been nothing short of amazing thus far.

Tip for future students

There is a lot of downtime in college, maximize it as much as possible. Finish your schoolwork​/​studying early in the day so your nights are free when most events take place. It's not fun when your friends are out doing something but you're stuck finishing an assignment that could have been completed earlier in the day.

Favorite class

Organic Chemistry 2 - Bonnie Dixon was one of the best professors I have had the privilege of learning from. While the class was tough, Professor Dixon made the material digestible and offered excellent help in office hours. Her bright personality made me seek out getting to know her and learning from her.

Career goals

I want to do research pertaining to Human Toxicology. My goal is to conduct studies that assess the effects of manmade chemicals on human health.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Gathering together a group of friends to do an activity such as a sport, cookout, etc. Some of my favorite nights have been spent on the back deck of my college house grilling burgers with buddies.

Favorite spot on campus

I love the entire South Campus of UMD because it has that "college feel." Older brick buildings with large trees lining the walkways. It's particularly beautiful during autumn when the leaves are changing colors.
