Hi, I’m Crystal! I’m a junior from central Florida double majoring in Biology and Environmental Science. You can often find me studying in Gothic Reading Room, climbing at the Wilson wall, or heading off-campus with friends for fresh air (and freshwater). I also love working in the Wellness Center when someone is playing the piano, or going to Coffeehouse on East Campus when Jazz@ has jam sessions. It definitely took me some time to find my footing here, and Duke’s resources are sometimes overwhelming to parse through, but I’m happy to share which ones might pertain to you! (especially those at the Nicholas School of the Environment). Feel free to ask me anything, and I'll tell it like it is.

Describe your college experience

In transitioning to college, I think the biggest changes have to do with intentionally cultivating your community, managing stress​/​time, and figuring out the right path​/​resources for you.

Tip for future students

Freshman (and even sophomore)year is the time to be explore and take risks–say yes to things and met new people. Make an effort to connect with your professors and find mentors.

Favorite class

My favorite class was actually my freshman year intro writing class on neuroscience in criminal court; the topic was super interesting, the professor was amazing, and the small class size made it easy to engage.

Career goals

I'm interested in environmental health and sustainable infrastructure! After college, I'm aiming to work in those fields and then eventually go to grad school for it.
