Ashly Lopez | Pre-Law Junior @ UT Austin | Resident Assistant & Student Mentor

Hi there!🤘I'm Ashly, an Advertising and Radio-Television-Film student at UT Austin with a minor in Entrepreneurship. I'm a Senior Resident Assistant and a Student Mentor in Moody College, so helping students navigate campus and feel at home is something I genuinely love. Outside of school, I intern in public relations, stay involved in several campus organizations, and spend way too much time with my cat, Pita. A fun fact about me is that I'll be graduating from UT completely debt-free without having a full ride!

Describe your college experience

Coming to UT had been my dream since I was a sophomore in high school. Like many students, I arrived excited but also nervous about balancing classes, work, and making friends. Looking back, those worries quickly turned into opportunities. Through becoming a Resident Assistant, mentoring first-year students, joining organizations, and finding incredible professors, I've built a community that has made UT feel like home. Every semester has pushed me to grow, and I truly love being able to help other students discover everything this campus has to offer.

Tip for future students

Trust that everything will come together if you're willing to put in the effort. Don't be afraid to ask questions, try new organizations, or step outside your comfort zone. Some of my best opportunities at UT came from simply introducing myself and saying yes to something new.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been Advertising and Public Relations Law and Ethics. It completely changed the way I think about media, advertising, and public policy. It helped me discover my passion for media and entertainment law and inspired the career path I'm working toward today.

Career goals

After graduating from UT, I hope to earn a master's degree in public policy while working in-house for a nutrition or beauty brand whose values align with my own. After gaining professional experience, I plan to attend a top law school and pursue a career in media and entertainment law, where I hope to advocate for ethical communication, intellectual property, and creative industries.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My perfect evening starts with a workout at Greg Gym, followed by grabbing dinner with friends or getting a sweet treat. Then I'll head home, curl up with my cat Pita, put on a good movie, and enjoy a quiet night to recharge before another busy day at UT.
