Hi! My name is Ashley, and I'm a junior at UT Austin majoring in Public Health with a minor in Business. I'm involved in undergraduate research, student organizations, and healthcare-focused experiences, including working as a pharmacy technician. I've also held leadership roles within Texas Public Health as the Director of Fundraising. Having grown up in both Texas and Saudi Arabia, I bring a unique perspective to college life and would love to help future Longhorns learn more about UT Austin, student involvement, academics, and campus culture.

Describe your college experience

Transitioning to UT Austin was exciting but definitely a learning experience. Coming to such a large university initially felt overwhelming, but getting involved in student organizations, research, and leadership positions helped make campus feel much smaller. I've met amazing people, gained valuable professional experience, and discovered my passion for healthcare and public health. My experience has shown me that there are opportunities for everyone at UT if you're willing to explore and get involved.

Tip for future students

Don't feel pressured to have everything figured out when you arrive. Get involved early, attend organization fairs, talk to professors, and try different opportunities. Some of my best experiences—including research, leadership roles, and healthcare experiences—came from stepping outside my comfort zone and reaching out to people.

Favorite class

My favorite class at UT Austin has been Psychology because it helped me better understand how people think, behave, and make decisions. I found it fascinating to learn about topics such as memory, development, mental health, and social behavior, and how these concepts apply to everyday life. The course also strengthened my communication and critical thinking skills while giving me a deeper appreciation for the connection between mental and physical health. As someone interested in healthcare, psychology has helped me better understand the patient perspective and the importance of empathy in healthcare settings.

Career goals

After college, I plan to attend pharmacy school and earn my PharmD. I'm interested in patient-centered healthcare and hope to work as a pharmacist while exploring opportunities in public health, healthcare innovation, and health technology.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night is grabbing dinner with friends, exploring Austin, attending a campus event, or relaxing with a good show after a productive day. I also enjoy staying active and spending time with the organizations I'm involved in on campus.
