An enthusiastic and friendly STEM major who aspires to become a teacher!
Hello! I'm Mason. I am a second year at UCSC and I would love to share my love for this school to inspire others to apply here! I love to hike, chill at the beach, hang out with friends, and spend a lot of time in nature overall. I hope to be able to motivate others to enjoy the campus and the surrounding area just as much as I do!

Hometown
I grew up in San Francisco, California, and I could not have lived in a better place! I enjoy all the scenic walking, biking, and hiking offered in San Francisco, and how lively and social it is! I also love the ever-changing weather and how it is always a surprise when I walk to a different neighborhood!

Describe your college experience
The transition to college is definitely a lot, and can be stressful, but personally it was very smooth for me and the administration makes the transition very easy and straightforward. I have loved this school since even before I applied here, and moving in and going to class for the first time was super exciting! There are so many different people and organizations here that you will always find a place to fit in no matter what, it really is amazing.
Tip for future students
I think just trying to get out more and actually enjoy the school, rather than just focusing on your grades and staying inside, would be greatly beneficial for your mental and physical health. You will make new friends, you will have fun, you will see cool things. I wish I had known that my allergies would be so bad in Santa Cruz, because I had a very sniffly nose from all the tree pollen and I had to start taking allergy meds :(
Favorite class
Probably BIOL20A Because my professor (Guido Bordignon) was hilarious, helpful, nice, and charming. He had a very funny Italian accent
Career goals
I hope to become a high school teacher back in San Francisco! Teaching at my alma mater, Lowell High School would be a dream. I could sponsor the clubs that I used to attend, like jugger club, ping pong club, outdoor club, marine biology club, crochet club, and so on. I would really enjoy getting to interact with people and help students on the daily, it just sounds like a very noble and productive life!
Ideal way to spend a free night
I would probably like to go on a night walk or a hike with a friend or two and have a very open conversation about our lives.
