Hello! My name is Amera and I am going into my second year at UCF as a pre-med student. I am a former athlete, an honor roll student, and I am passionate about serving my community and helping others. Throughout school, I have enjoyed taking on leadership roles and love connecting with new people, so I would consider myself a strong conversationalist. In my free time I enjoy studying with my roommates, playing volleyball, reading, traveling, and exploring new places.

Describe your college experience

Transitioning to college took some time as I adjusted to a new environment and developed a routine. Once I became involved on campus, UCF became my second home. During my first year I joined several clubs, became a member of a professional fraternity, served on the Student Government board, played club sports (and traveled), and made lifelong friends. These experiences have allowed me to continue growing as a leader while simultaneously meeting people from many different backgrounds and perspectives, helping me grow both personally and professionally.

Tip for future students

Before I went to college, an older peer of mine told me to "Say yes to everything." I think this advice drove me to get out of my comfort zone, and put myself out there. As a result this led me to have so many meaningful connections both with peers and advisors. I would pass along the same advice, but with one addition: know your limits. Saying yes opens the door for opportunities, while recognizing your limits helps maintain balance in your day to day life.

Favorite class

Ironically as a pre-med major, it was AMH 2020 (U.S. History) with Professor Duffy. The class was enlightening and fun. I made great connections with my peers, who I am still friends with today. This class also taught me how to study effectively.

Career goals

After college, I plan to pursue either medical school or physician assistant school. I plan to specialize in pediatrics or pediatric surgery, as I have always had a passion for both medicine and working with children. Outside of school I am a travel nanny, babysitter, and a summer camp lead at Epperson Lagoon. I enjoy shadowing physicians, participating in clinical experiences, and learning about human anatomy. My career goals are driven by passion for both medicine and working with children, allowing me to combine the two in a meaningful way.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Either attending a yoga class, getting a sweet treat, and going to the movies with my roommates. Or visiting a new place for dinner and doing a fun activity at icon park.
