Describe your college experience
Coming in to college, I had no other students from my school attending UCSC. Because of this, I believe that it took me a minute to truly get out of my shell and find my place at UCSC. Since freshman year, I have learned so much about myself and made lasting friendships that I couldn’t imagine living without.
Tip for future students
Branch out! Every person there is in a similar boat to you and by joining clubs, study groups, or simply going out you can meet people and build lasting connections. Also, if you’re having trouble adapting to the academics, go to office hours! Most, if not all, classes have set times with the professor or TA’s that are dedicated to helping you get a better understanding of the material.
Favorite class
I have a science favorite and a non-science favorite. For science, it’s been our Organic Chemistry class! I believe UCSC has a great structure and resources for all of our chemistry classes. Because of this, a lot of my peers and I found success where a lot of other classes struggled at other schools. For non-science, The Beatles class here was fun and unlike anything I’ve taken before. We spent a lot of time simply listening to music and the assignments were super creative and interesting.
Career goals
I’m currently on a Pre-Health track and hope to become a Physician Assistant. After college, I will need to take a gap year to work to gain hours of work experience before applying to schools.
Ideal way to spend a free night
If I have a free night without homework, I’ll head down to the beach until the sun goes down and then make a nice dinner with friends before putting on a good movie.
