A curious pre-med student always looking for the next best study café.

Hiii! I’m Amruta, and I’m majoring in Neurobiology and on the pre-med track. I’m pretty outgoing and love meeting new people and making new friends. Outside of school, I love finding cute study cafés and hidden spots around campus. I also love hanging out with my friends and making new memories. I’m always down to explore somewhere new or try something different. As a tour guide, I want everyone to feel comfortable and welcomed. I’m happy to share my favorite places, give tips about campus life, and share my own experiences as a student.

Describe your college experience

Being away from home taught me to be more independent and encouraged me to build a community on campus. Although I was able to meet many people, I learned that forming genuine friendships takes time and effort to build a friend group where everyone cares about one another, supports one another, and encourages one another to reach their goals. Overall, my college experience has helped me grow more independent while showing me the importance of finding a supportive community.

Tip for future students

Skipping lectures can be addictive because no one is there to hold you accountable for attending. Try to go to your lectures, or you might end up feeling overwhelmed during midterms and finals. Also, some classes have two or even three midterms—a “midterm” doesn’t necessarily mean an exam in the middle of the term :(( The quarter system goes by really quickly, so stay on top of your work from the beginning.

Favorite class

Endocrinology has been my favorite class so far because the course covered different hormone pathways and the diseases associated with changes in those pathways. I enjoyed practicing how to diagnose a patient’s condition based on different scenarios and learning how to connect the various hormonal pathways. I found it especially interesting to understand how changes in one pathway can affect other parts of the body and lead to different conditions.

Career goals

After college, I plan to attend medical school and pursue a career as a neurosurgeon. I want to build a career where I can help people, continue learning, and make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.

Ideal way to spend a free night

going out for dinner with my friends, watching a good movie, or spending some quiet time drawing.

Favorite spot on campus

I love the Keeling Rooftop. It is located on the 6th floor of the Keeling's apartment. It is a great spot to see the sunset and hang out with friends.
