A Clemson Senior's Inside Scoop
Hey hi hey! I'm Peyton, a senior studying psychology with a biological sciences minor. I have absolutely loved my time at Clemson and getting to experience so many sides of it. The culture and family here are unlike anything I've experinced, and even as a senio, I feel like there is still so much I have yet to do. From finding my favorite study spots to getting involved in research and meeting people who have shaped my Clemson experience, there’s always something new around the corner. I’m excited to share the Clemson I’ve come to love and hopefully help you find the parts of it that could make it feel like home to you, too.

Describe your college experience
As soon as I saw Clemson's campus, I knew I needed to go here. I committed the day after I got home from touring, but the warmth and buzz of campus is just the start. Here, you will find that Clemson is truly a family. I have had such a wonderful time growing academically and personally, discovering new interests, getting involved in research, and forming bonds with professors and friends who have made Clemson feel like home. Even as I've changed and grown throughout college, Clemson has continued to feel like the right place for me. I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences I’ve had here and for the people who have made my Clemson experience so special.
Tip for future students
No matter how much you love your school, or if you get there and hate it, there is a huge adjustment period that is unaviodable and lasts an unknown amount of time. It is uncomfotable, and you'll probably want to give up sometimes, but it will pass and be SO worth getting through. Everyone is going through the exact same thing when college first starts, and there is an inital rush of everyone wanting to know everyone, but what is meant to be will be and you will find your place and your people with time!
Favorite class
I've taken some really fun classes at Clemson, like 20-21st Century Blockbusters and Dinosaurs to Birds, but my favorite class was actually a degree-required course: Experimental Psychology with Professor Rick Tyrrell. This one course stood out to me because of how passionate Professor Tyrrell was about the field. It also gave me a strong foundation in research principals and psychological methods, and even though it was challenging, I enjoyed it. It has given me practical tools that I continue to use in my science courses, and Professor Tyrrell’s enthusiasm for the field really inspired me to pursue research myself post-grad.
Career goals
After Clemson, I hope to pursue research, particularly at the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, and human factors. I’m especially interested in understanding how people think, perform, and work together, and I plan to pursue graduate-level studies after gaining a few years of hands-on research experience.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Staying in with my friends playing games, or going downtown!
High school or secondary school
Walt Whitman High School
Favorite spot on campus
I love all the outdoor spots around Cooper Library because they either look at the reflection pond or the big field behind Cooper. I'll also go to the amphethert steps if its not to hot. They’re such peaceful places to sit, study, or just take a break and enjoy campus. When weather is to hot/cold/rainy, you'll find me in Brackett Hall becuase it's got the P.O.D market and plenty of seats. When I have to be extra productive, it'll have to be lower levels of Cooper for some quiet.
