First-Gen who switched majors three times
Hello! My name is Carmen, and I am on a pre-law path. I moved here from a Texas suburb, so I have had to get used to a lot. I am a first-gen student, so I am figuring out a lot of university alone. I switched from Computer Science to Electrical Engineering to Political Science, so I know what it is like to feel lost when it comes to your future career path. The advisors and counselors at Boston University are the absolute best, though and helped me throughout the whole process. Do not be scared to reach out for help or guidance from anyone here. The campus is HUGE, so there are still places I do not know, but there are a lot of gems people do not know of even if they go here. It can feel scary to be here, but trust me, it is not. There are also amazing places outside of campus that are amazing to hang out with friends as but if you want to stay on campus most of the time, you have everything you need here. Feel free to come with questions not only about the campus but also about academics and social life at BU.

Describe your college experience
My transition to college was pretty fast. I went to study abroad in Argentina for my first semester; it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. My experience in college is so far so good. I do get stressed out with academics, but making good friends always makes things better.
Tip for future students
Make sure you are on top of your classes. As soon as you get the syllabus, read it, write down the important dates, and get your materials in advance. Remember to bring bed sheets.
Favorite class
My favorite class is Race, Policing, and Resistance in the U.S. and Beyond because it gives you different perspectives on how different people view police and what has been done by the public to resist horrible police practices and bad government.
Career goals
After undergrad, I hope to work as a paralegal for a year, then attend law school.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Go to Newbury Street with my friends, walk around, and have something to eat.
High school or secondary school
Nimitz High School
Favorite spot on campus
Righ behind CDS.
Meeting point
Rhett Bench on the Boston University campus

Carmen was a wonderful tour guide! She brought great energy and shared so much helpful information throughout our visit. We covered a lot of ground walking and exploring the different campuses, which gave us a great feel for the school. Her enthusiasm made the experience engaging and enjoyable. Thank you, Carmen, for such a thorough and informative tour! Highly recommend!
