A foodie, cellular biology and neuroscience major who has grown to love Rutgers

Hello! I'm Seef, a freshman on a pre-med track majoring in cellular biology and neuroscience. I'm in the EOF and ODASIS program. I moved from North Jersey, from my town of Haledon. I consider Rutgers my home, adopted it really fast, and enjoy every second. I'm a huge foodie, so I've eaten at every food spot that's on campus and off campus. I'd love to give you recommendations or places to try based on what you're craving. I can also tell you the best late-night spots to enjoy a walk, take your mind off things, and de-stress. I'm happy to answer any questions about anything, because I already have so much to experience at Rutgers, like taking NJ Transit, driving on campus, and what it's like to live in a dorm.

Describe your college experience

I started at Rutgers early and did the EOF summer program throughout my time here. I stayed overnight, dorming through the summer and fall semester. Although it has been good so far, there will be people whom you find odd or don't connect with. Overall, though, moving in was amazing because of the volunteers there, and the classes have been great. The professors give you all the resources you need to succeed, and there's always a club activity or an on-campus event. Rutgers is very welcoming, and with so many people, you will definitely find your group easily.

Tip for future students

There will always be people who seem different from you and think differently, so you need to have a lot of patience and an open mind. You shouldn't judge someone based on how they look. With how many people go to Rutgers, there is bound to be judgment.

Favorite class

Intro to Latino studies. Seeing how much I have in common with Latin immigrants and learning about their history and how social issues arise because of facing discrimination makes me feel seen as an Arab immigrant myself, whose parents had to work long hours and go through many of the things we learn in class.

Career goals

Medical school

Ideal way to spend a free night

Ask my friends if we can do something on campus, head to an event a club is hosting, or go somewhere fun.

High school or secondary school

Manchester Regional High School

Favorite spot on campus

Cook Doug Neilson Dining Hall. The interior is really nice, and after a long day, there are no lines for any of the food, even when the dining hall is full. There are different types of seating available if you decide to eat with friends or study. I always find myself heading to the takeout as well since they make it really welcoming.
