Outgoing nursing major who wants to help you adjust here as quick as possible!

Hey! My name is Amukta and I am a freshmen at Rutgers majoring in Nursing looking to become a nurse practitioner in the future! Although I am a new student, my sister went to Rutgers previously and has passed down all the hidden gems through her four years to me and I’ve already discovered a couple myself that I’d like to share with you all. As you might know, this campus is quite large and there might be places you might not have even visited four years down the line. So, I want to be able to assist you in identifying those early on so you can find a couple of comfort spots sooner rather than later. More than that, this school is very spirited and inclusive, so it’s safe to say you will never be bored and there’s something to involve yourself in no matter what it is. School is going to keep you busy, but it’s important to have options to what you want to see when you have time to go there. Whether that be scenery, new food places, study spots, or essentials, I’ll make sure to cover them all. Come to me with questions and an open mind! I’ll see you all soon!

Describe your college experience

My college experience has started off well and I am adjusting to the large campus and different opportunities that is provided for us. One of the biggest adjustments is having so much freedom and being able to find what is right for your in every single aspect including studying, food, teachers, campus, work, etc. Overall, college is not something you get used to overnight but I think it's interesting to discover something new here everyday!

Tip for future students

Although I am a new student myself, I believe something I wish I did was try and get to know more people through Social Media because it is definitely an obstacle to spend time making friends depending on your personality. Additionally, during Welcome Week, I think it's crucial to take note on what you want to prioritize in college and be as involved as you can because you will have so much more free time to explore.

Favorite class

Anatomy and Physiology because I find it really interesting to explore different aspects of our body physically and chemically.

Career goals

After graduating, I want to pursue a career as a Nurse Practitioner but I also want to have hobbies in other activities and not limit myself to an academic world.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night depends on the week I had. If I hadn't seen some of my friends in a while, I would plan some time to go out with them wherever that might be. On the other hand, if I think I have been doing so much work and need some time alone, I would relax in my dorm to do some self-care and recovering. Lastly, I would make sure to take some time to call my family back home and just catch up with them.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite place on campus is probably cafes on College Avenue such as Hidden Grounds or Akihi or alternatively the stairs near Livingston Student Center because there's live music there and you can just meet a lot of people there as well.
