Outgoing Public health major intrested in giving back to the community

Hi everyone, my name is Blessing Osei-Owusu. I’m currently a student at Rutgers University and I’m pursuing a degree in Public Health. I originally came to Rutgers as an undecided major, but as I learned more about different career paths, I became more interested in public health and the healthcare field. I’m especially interested in health equity, healthcare access, and understanding how things like income, culture, education, and where someone lives can affect their health and the care they receive. Outside of academics, I enjoy listening to music, watching movies, spending time with my family and friends, and finding time to relax when school gets stressful. Music is a big part of my everyday life, and I usually have my headphones with me because listening to music helps me relax and clear my mind. I also enjoy learning about different cultures and connecting with my Ghanaian heritage because both of my parents are from Ghana. As a student, one of my goals is to continue growing academically while also gaining experiences that will help me prepare for a career in healthcare or public health. I’m a first-generation college student, so college has been a learning experience for me, but it has also helped me become more independent and motivated. I’m looking forward to meeting new people, learning from everyone’s different experiences, and continuing to figure out exactly where I want my career to take me.

Describe your college experience

It was a little rough at first trying to find a balance and understanding of academics, social life, financing, and more. Eventually I got the hang of it, I've found a great group of friends, good academics and now able to balance my fianiances. I just had to trust the process.

Tip for future students

Do not give up! There will be times where you feel overwhelmed and feel like nothing is working out but please do not give up. Everything will work out.

College Writing, I took it first semester freshman year. I had a very interactive class and an amazing professor. Made me very comfortable very fast
