Rutgers Business junior, real talk on classes, buses, food & campus life

I'm Heth. I'm a senior at Rutgers Business School studying Marketing and Leadership & Management, and I transferred in from Middlesex County College, so I know both routes into Rutgers and can talk honestly about either one. I'm happy to answer whatever you actually want to know what the workload is like, how the bus system and five campuses really work, what living on campus is like versus commuting, where people eat, and how you find your group here. I'll tell you the good parts and the parts that take getting used to. I also speak English, Gujarati, Hindi, and Marathi, so if parents are more comfortable asking questions in one of those, that's no problem at all.

Describe your college experience

I started at Middlesex County College and transferred into Rutgers Business School, so my transition looked different from most people's. The size was the biggest adjustment going from a small campus where everything is in one place to five campuses connected by buses. It took me a few weeks to figure out the bus timing and how much of a gap I actually needed between classes. The academics were a step up too, but manageable once I got into a rhythm; I'm carrying a 3.875 GPA now. The harder part was social. When you transfer in, everyone already has their group, so you have to put yourself out there more deliberately. Overall I'm glad I came this route. I saved money, and I think I appreciate being here more than I would have as a freshman.

Tip for future students

Two things I wish I'd known. First, figure out the bus system in your first week and always leave more time than you think you need. A lot of early-semester stress is just not knowing how long it takes to get from Livingston to College Ave. Second, put yourself out there early. Go to the involvement fair, talk to the person next to you in class, say yes to things. Everyone feels like they're the only one who hasn't found their group yet, and the people who reach out first sort it out fastest.

Career goals

I'm majoring in Marketing and Leadership & Management, so I'm aiming for a marketing role ideally brand strategy or consumer insights, figuring out why people buy what they buy. I'm applying to internships now and planning to do a master's after I graduate in May 2027. I also run my own YouTube channel on the side, so I'd like to keep building something of my own alongside a corporate job.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Honestly, food and people. Grabbing dinner on Easton Ave with a few friends, then just sitting around talking for way too long. If it's a quieter night, I'll watch a match, throw on a movie, or play PS5. Nothing complicated I just like nights where there's no rush. Also go to a party if u are a party person
