Personable social work student who is open to new possibilities!

Hi! I'm Martrecia, a graduate student at the School of Social Work. I came to Rutgers because there is no place like home! Being open to new opportunities truly molded me into the person that I am today! You'll most likely always catch me at the Paul Robeson Cultural Center or the Alexander Library.

Describe your college experience

When I transitioned from high school to college was not as abad because I went to a boarding school, so it wasn't really an issue of being away from home, my focus was mainly on how did I fit into the Rutgers community. It took some time, but I adjusted more once I started to put myself out there like going to club meetings and going to the cultural centers on campus.

Tip for future students

A tip that I would share with future students would be to keep an open mind when it comes to opportunities because you never know if it would be a life changer.

Favorite class

My favorite class was creative writing because it allowed me to be myself on paper. It was a time I got be as expressive as possible without having a to think about. It took me back to when I was in high school and had a similar class that as also as relaxing as this one in college.

Career goals

The ultimate goal that I have for myself is to work on the legal side of education and in nonprofit work. I want to move progress forward as a social worker. As for now, I plan to graduate with my Masters in Social Work with a concentration in Management and Policy, with the hopes of going to law school.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night would watching my favorite Kdrama or reading a book.
