Outgoing Accounting Major who loves the culture and people of BYU.

Hi, my name is Hollis Homer, I am a second year student at BYU, and I have fallen in love with this place. I am going to be entering into the accounting program next fall, so right now I am just taking generals. I have not had a bad professor, and each class I’ve been in has taught me so much. I am a big fan of movies and sports. BYU is a great place for both. I can tell you all about or teams here at BYU, and how fun it is to go to games. Basketball is my favorite, but I’ve been to so many different sports games and I always had a blast. Also, if you are looking to play intermural sports, I know where to sign up and get a team going. BYU is also super neat, as it has an International Cinema association with it. It plays unique movies every week that I love going to with some good buddies. I can tell you all about that as well. I love walking around campus and finding new spots to enjoy. BYU has one of the prettiest campuses out there, and it is so well taken care of. I can show you the best places to study, where to chill, and where they host clubs and activities. BYU is such a great place, and I would love to talk more about it with you and get to know you more.

Clubs, organizations & involvement

I have been involved in many activities at BYU. We always have a intermural basketball team each semester that is so fun, and I’ve met new friends and became so close to my teammates each year. We had so much fun. I am an active member in the Beta Alpha Psi Accounting club, and I am looking to join others this semester, so more fun and easy going ones.

Describe your college experience

My college experience at Utah Tech was nothing like it is here at BYU. After my mission, I transferred schools, and it has been the greatest decision of my life. BYU campus is so pretty, professors are all professional and prepared, and the people on campus are always so friendly and nice. I have been lucky to make some new friends and reconnect with old ones while I have been up here. It has been so fun to experience all BYU has to offer, from clubs, to sports games, to recreational activities. BYU is the best place to manage personal, social, and student life.

Tip for future students

Stay on top of your homework. Sometimes it can feel like a lot, but as long as you do it by chunks, you can make it so there is other time to do fun activities. Sometimes you have to choose, but if you stay on top of studying and get your homework done, school naturally rewards you and life is a lot less stressful. Remember, you are here for school, there will be opportunities for lots of other things at lots of other times, but right now, education is the priority.

Favorite class

Accounting 310, I had the best professor and I really learned to love accounting in that class. I was able to apply myself and find success in studying something I had growing interest in. I felt like I finally belonged and participated in class where I was able to have a personal relationship with my professor.

Career goals

I hope to earn my CPA after graduating with a Masters degree in Accounting. I want to work for one of the Big 4 Accounting Firms, and then after a couple years of experience, switch to a smaller firm. Eventually I would love it if I became a personal Tax Accountant and could help others and companies file taxes. And then I hope to use that skill to help those in need with it as well, making and living with those that can afford it, and then offering services to those that cannot.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My favorite way to spend a free night is with my friends. Whether it is watching a movie with them, playing card games, or being active in sports, anything with friends is always fun. I love the friendships we have and the connections we build. Spending time with others I care about brings me so much joy, and I could just laugh the night away when I’m in those environments.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the library. I love to go there and study, it is such a peaceful environment. It is also fun place to talk with friends and meet up. I have had many meet up with buddies there to catch up and maybe do a little bit of homework as well.
