Friendly nursing student from Virginia

Hi! I’m Anika, a first-year nursing student from Virginia. Moving away from home and starting at such a big school was definitely an adjustment, but I’ve loved getting to meet people and make Rutgers feel more like home. I’m happy to answer questions about dorm life, classes, being an out-of-state student, making friends, or anything else you’re wondering about. I want to give you a real and honest perspective so college feels a little less intimidating.

Describe your college experience

My transition to Rutgers has been exciting as I adjust to a new routine, meet new people, and explore campus. I’m enjoying the independence while learning how to balance classes, friends, and taking care of myself.

Tip for future students

Put yourself out there from the beginning: go to events, talk to people in your classes, and don’t be afraid to try new things. Everyone is looking for friends too. Be comfortable in being uncomfortable.

Favorite class

Anatomy because I love the way the human body works

Career goals

After college, I hope to become a pediatric ICU nurse (eventually an CRNA) and provide compassionate care while being a strong advocate for my patients and their families.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Getting dinner on College Ave with friends, then hanging out in someone’s dorm, watching a movie, or going out and exploring New Brunswick.

High school or secondary school

Oakton High School

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is College Avenue because there is always something happening, and I love being close to restaurants, study spaces, and other students.

Meeting point

Daniel S. Schanck Observatory
