Senior Facility Management Major with 3+ years experience on (and under) campus
Hey, I'm Jake! I bet that title got your mind turning a bit. I'm a senior here at BYU studying Construction and Facility Management. For my first 3 years on campus, I had a part time job at the BYU electric shop. BYU takes care of their own facilities, and in doing so they allow students to work with the full time employees to learn how to maintain campus. Doing this job took me all over BYU, including, but not limited to, the roof of the tallest building on campus (the Kimball tower), the ceiling above the pool in the Richards Building, beneath the dugouts in Miller Park, inside the scoreboards at LaVell Edwards Stadium, the underground utilities tunnels connecting most buildings on campus, and many other places. I have also had classes in a lot of buildings on campus, and have friends that have taken classes in the buildings I haven't had classes in. I love to have fun and get to know people, and I also love to shar the knowledge I have to help other people have a good experience.

Describe your college experience
My path to BYU has been a little different than most people. I did some dual enrollment college classes in high school, went on a mission to Sacramento, California, then worked in the trades for a bit after my mission. After 6 months working in the trades, I kept getting a nagging feeling I needed to go back to school. Long story short I ended up getting accepted to BYU and I've been here since fall of 2023. It's been a super fun time here. Some highlights for me are going to student club activities, meeting really great people, making awesome friends both in students and professors, learning how to truly network, and when finances allow, going to sporting events.
Tip for future students
Have a daily/weekly planner so you have your school assignments mapped out. Doing this ensures you get your school work done to keep your grades up, but also helps you map your time to have as much free time as possible. Eliminating distractions when working on homework makes it possible to have a great college experience.
Favorite class
The Eternal Family with Brian Mead, he's a great professor and he knows how to teach on a personal level. Human Resource Management, it was a really good class with information about things to do and not to do in the workplace to be a great employer/employee.
Career goals
I plan on joining the U.S. Air Force as an officer after I graduate.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I love spending time with my wife or my friends. Whether it's out hiking, fishing, around a campfire, playing sports, or watching a show, I love to spend time with people I'm close to.

Favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot on campus is the library. It has so many different vibes in it depending on what floor you're on. The main floor is a very social floor, in addition to a few other floors, while the 5th floor - as well as some of the special library wings - are quiet and filled with books and cool artifacts to look at. Most people go their whole time at BYU without realizing the cool things the library has to offer.
