Approachable communications student who keeps it real
Hi! I’m Livy Richardson! I’m originally from Scottsdale, Arizona, but Provo has become home while I finish my bachelor’s degree in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations at BYU. When I’m not in class, you can usually find me at the gym, out on a walk, at hot Pilates, or in the kitchen trying a new recipe. I also love painting, reading, listening to music, and watching movies. I’m always up for a night out, but I’m equally happy spending a quiet night in recharging and catching up with friends. I’m excited to help prospective students get a genuine feel for what life at BYU is actually like and share the experiences that have made my time here so meaningful. As the title suggests, I like to keep things real, so when you tour with me, you can expect an honest take on all things BYU, from the best parts to the things you might not hear in a brochure!

Describe your college experience
My transition to college was pretty on par for most college experiences. It took me about a semester to feel comfortable and settled in my new environment. After finding my niche, friends, and routines, I really grew to love my college experience. My love for my college experience has continued to grow as I have become more invested in my major, as I have been able to see directly how class concepts are preparing me for the workforce and to be a solid communicator in my every day life.
Tip for future students
Find something to go all in on whether it's a club, academic group, social group, etc. find something that brings you joy and helps you establish community. The more you buy into your college experience, the more you will get out of it!
Favorite class
I loved COMMS 333: Social and Digital Media in Public Relations. This class introduces students to the "digital media ecosystem, including analytics, web development, virtual reality, and social media." In addition, students get exposure to the various ways organizations use digital tools in their communications and how those tools impact society. The class is extremely collaborative and allows for peer-to-peer mentorship, as well as close guidance from an amazing professor. The end product of the class is an increase in understanding concerning the digital world, as well as a portfolio-ready analysis of a current communication crisis with student recommendations and strategies.
Career goals
I hope to work in strategic communications for either a communications agency or in-house for a business. I hope to attend a masters program for business after a few years of professional work as well.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal free night involves water color painting, a good movie, and a sweet treat! School keeps me busy, so I'll take any chance I can get to slow down, use the creative side of my brain and create something new.
High school or secondary school
Arcadia High School
Favorite spot on campus
My favorite place on campus is the Museum of Art (MOA). It is the perfect study spot or study break. The rotating art exhibits provide students and community members with ample opportunities to discover new artwork and expand their experiences with various forms of art. The MOA truly is a little oasis in what can be a stressful environment.
