Human Development major interested in Medicine! Extroverted and BYU lover

I am Gavin Davis. I am a human development major in the school of Family Life. I am doing a biology focused study of Human Development and want to be able to get into medical school. I am currently EMT certified and doing research for Dr. Juan Arroyo. I love BYU and love the spiritual aspect of the learning here. I love to run and Provo is a really fun town. Between running and walking around I know campus and the surroundingn area really well. BYU has an exciting atmosphere and there is always something to do on campus.

Describe your college experience

I feel welcome at BYU and like there are resources to help students in any situation. I initially came here and was really worried about academic rigour and feeling helpless. The university has a lot of resources to help students feel calm about their academics. BYU also provides many activities that appeal to every style of interest.

Tip for future students

My best tip for future students is: don't doubt yourself. I think that starting college, really every semester, comes with a lot of stress and pressure. If you let it get to you, you often lose a lot of social connection. You can have fun, you can have friends, school is important and totally doable.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been my introduction to political science class. I was initially worried about the workload of the class and the presicion the professor expected. After utalizing the resources on campus, such as TA study hours, office hours for my professor, and the writing lab on campus I was able to do well and learn a lot about current world events.

Career goals

I want to become a Mohs surgeon, so medical school, than dermatolody residency, and finally a Mohs fellowship program.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is to get together with a group of friends and do something interactive. I love hiking, festivals, getting food, bonfires, or a backyard BBQ.

High school or secondary school

Rockbridge High School

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the 1rst floor library quiet room. I started studying here in my first semester with a really good friend. I am really able to focus and get a lot done in this room. When I need something done I go here and it almost always gets done.
