Outgoing Neuroscience major who can help you find your way at UMD

Hi! I am Macey. I grew up in Newtown, CT. I came here, no idea what to expect or how UMD was going to open my world to the greatest experiences. As I am a freshman, I get the same feeling you have now, and I am beyond excited to be a part of your college decision! I will usually be trying to navigate Eppely's massive gyms, laying out by our outdoor pool, or trying new workout classes with my friends. I love anything from a good book by the pool to Saturday night games, watching the Maryland flag drop over the student section. I understand how daunting college can be, and how hard it is to make this decision. I grew up in a small Connecticut town, thrust into this large campus, knowing basically no one! I am here to help you navigate your next four years being a Terp!

Describe your college experience

My experience at Maryland is different to most, as I am from out of state. It is difficult at points to be in a place where it feels like everyone knows each other, but I found my people and branched out in my classes and my dorm.

Tip for future students

Go do everything, go to freshman activities, go walk around for fun, it is never embarrassing because everyone is in the same boat.

Favorite class

My favorite class is my Math135, since it is pretty easy, and my professor is super understanding and a great teacher.

Career goals

Medical school, to hopefully become a neuroscientist.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Go to yoga for free at Eppley Rec Center, walk to 251 dining hall after for a bite, then finish it off with Maryland Dairy.

High school or secondary school

Newtown High School

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the South Campus quad. It is very calming and peaceful, most people don't realize it's even there!

Meeting point

Frederick Douglass Square on the University of Maryland campus
