Outgoing business major who knows every hidden gem around campus

Hi! I’m Gavin, a sophomore Strategic Management major and Mexican food enthusiast. I’ve been a lifelong fan of BYU and being a student here as only made me love it more! I usually spend my free time going on runs around Provo, studying in my favorite part of the library (5th floor, east section, I’ll show you), or beating my roommates at super smash bros. I’m pumped to show you all the best study spots, the cool hidden gems, and the fun quirky things that make this campus so special. I genuinely love this place and can’t wait to share it with you!

Describe your college experience

My first semester was a little rocky. I was coming off of 2 gap years and overloaded my schedule a bit but I was lucky to have an amazing support system on and off campus. My professors have all been demanding but also uplifting and encouraging. I’ve had only positive experiences with the student body and I’ve felt the impact of the universities student prioritization.

Tip for future students

Reserve study rooms in the library as far in advance as you can or study in other buildings. Set aside a few hours of outdoor time and socializing each week. Sign up for more classes than you’ll actually take so you have some backups to choose from during the first week of the semester.

Favorite class

ExDM 300: Creating a Good Life. It forced me to get out of my comfort zone and explore what BYU had to offer its students. I learned a lot of valuable lessons on humans flourishing and psychology

Career goals

I hope to be a management consultant in order to help businesses grow and organizations thrive

Ideal way to spend a free night

Anything with my friends. I love pretty much any type of game, as long as I’m with other people it’ll be a good time.

High school or secondary school

Maple mountain high school

Favorite spot on campus

There’s a park bench in the center of the south campus botanical gardens that is so peaceful and secluded I feel like I’m far away from the city and in the mountains again.

Meeting point

Joseph F. Smith Building Courtyard on the Brigham Young University campus
