Outgoing psychology major who knows all the events & clubs around campus!

Hi!!! I'm Kian, a second-year Psychology B.S. major with a minor in Sociology! I currently live in Irvine, California, but I grew up in Canada! I first arrived to this campus knowing pretty much nobody, but found my place (even if I'm still exploring!) I love trying new things and meeting new people, so you'll probably find me around a lot in theatre events, Psychology club shenanigans, or simply singing Real Loudly in the karaoke rooms with friends! I also love trying new foods with roommates at the dining halls. I enjoy exploring the campus and taking walks, learning trivia about each unusual building or spectacle on campus! I can't wait to show you my favourite spots, places to get food, and how to navigate around a large campus such as this one. I'd be more than happy to share my own honest experiences at this university, and I look forward to meeting you! Please don't hesitate to ask questions if you have any; I'll answer them all with pleasure :-D

Describe your college experience

The transition into college was honestly quite smooth for me, but having to make my own schedule entirely and finding classes on such a huge campus did throw me off and cause me a bit of stress. Nonetheless, it's quite easy to get the hang of, and participating in extracurriculars and hobbies and hanging out with friends can really make a positive difference in university life :-)

Tip for future students

I went into college thinking that I'd remember all the homework I needed to do without writing it down. Because all your classes have different workloads and may be different subjects, it really helps to have a planner... which I didn't have my first year :,-D

Favorite class

I really loved taking SOCI 127: Sociology of Immigration, Ethnicity, and Race this summer, because it was super engaging and I got to learn more about the world and understand my own family's immigration history on a deeper level!

Career goals

I would like to be an art therapist or maybe a psychiatric nurse. I'm still exploring, but I know I would love to work with people!

Ideal way to spend a free night

Hanging out with friends in the common room or going out to the mall for a nice dinner with them! If it's a calmer night, I like indulging in my hobbies, such as drawing or playing guitar.

High school or secondary school

Portola High School

Favorite spot on campus

M.O.M.'s! Great place to get food and drinks, it's super tasty! Also a huge fan of the karaoke room. Great place to hang out with friends if the wait times aren't crazy!

Meeting point

Triton Fountain on the University of California San Diego campus
