UMD Senior | Bioengineering & Pre-Dental
Hi! I’m Elaina, a senior Bioengineering major on the pre-dental track. I’m a very energetic and outgoing person, and I love meeting new people and talking to pretty much anyone. Over my time at UMD, I’ve gotten involved in different clubs and organizations, met people from all kinds of backgrounds, and explored a lot of what campus has to offer. When I’m not in class, I’m usually studying somewhere around campus, at the gym, grabbing food with friends, going to a basketball or football game, or attending different events. I especially love how there is always something going on at UMD and how easy it is to find your own community, no matter what you’re interested in. I’d love to share my experiences, favorite places, and little things I’ve learned along the way to help future students picture what life at UMD is really like.

Describe your college experience
I have had a great college experience so far. I really like the campus and all of the different things it has to offer, from the variety of classes to the many clubs and organizations where everyone can find a community. I have also met a lot of great people and enjoy the energy on campus, especially during football and basketball games. I feel like there are always new opportunities to get involved, meet people, and try something different.
Tip for future students
Take advantage of your time in college and the resources available to you. Going to office hours and studying in groups can save you a lot of time when you are struggling with a class, which gives you more time to get involved on campus. It is also really important to have a balance. Make time for yourself and the things you enjoy so you can clear your mind and not let school become overwhelming.
Favorite class
ENES102-Mechanics I: This was my favorite class because I found the topics really interesting, and once I understood the material, it was actually really fun. I also had an amazing professor who was very engaging and made the class enjoyable.
Career goals
I hope to attend dental school and pursue a career as a dentist. My goal is to continue building on what I have learned through bioengineering and my pre-dental experiences as I prepare for a career in dentistry.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal free night would be going to the gym, getting ready, and going out with my friends to try a new place to eat. We would probably end the night by finding somewhere to get a sweet treat.

Favorite spot on campus
It is hard for me to choose just one favorite spot on campus. When the weather is nice, I love McKeldin Mall because it is beautiful and refreshing to sit outside. I also really like Hornbake Library, especially the basement study areas surrounded by glass because they let in a lot of natural light and are a great place to study for exams. Another favorite is STAMP because I can grab food, sit and talk with friends, or find a place to study. There is always something to do there, from the bowling alley to Maryland Dairy.
