Hii! I'm Asia, a junior studying Psychology and Spanish, but I'm originally from Atlanta. I'm hoping to become a child clinical psychologist in the future. Outside of academics, I'm a big music and theatre lover, but you will still find me at EVERY football game. I have very diverse interests and try to join orgs that will give me the opportunity to explore more than one.

Describe your college experience

As an out-of-state student I had a somewhat rocky transition to UM freshman year. However, I quickly realized the best way to get comfortable is to get as involved as possible. I told myself I had to start saying "yes" to everything I could because you never know when you're gonna find a new friend, passion, or even career opportunity. I have kept this mindset throughout my time and continuously seek out new adventures! It has turned college into such an engaging and fun experience for me to find new ways to challenge myself.

Tip for future students

Bring a lint roller!!!! No one talks about this, but it's so needed for communal laundry. Also, say "yes" to everything and everyone (within reason). I know it feels like you want to make friends with certain types of people that you may normally gravitate to, or be part of the same activities, but the amazing thing about college is that everyone is starting over. You never know the connection you could have to a person or new activity unless you try it. Also, be the person asking! Don't just wait to say yes. If there's something new you wanna try or an event you want to go to, ask someone else to join you or go alone and make a friend there. No one will judge you for doing things on your own on college.

Favorite class

Personality psychology! It was so interesting to learn the "why's" behind personality and do a deep dive into myself and my peers. It was not a topic within psychology that I had been considering before, but it was such a fun class to take that I ended up recommending it to friends who aren't even psych majors.

Career goals

Grad school, with the hopes of eventually getting my PhD in Clinical Psychology and becoming a Child Clinical Psychologist.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Going to a Michigan Athletics event (any sport) or seeing a theater​/​music performance! Then getting ice cream with my friends from Michigan Creamery and we sit in the Diag enjoying it. Finally, ordering takeout from No Thai and eating it on the balcony at my partment while we listen to music and talk.

Favorite spot on campus

The Arb (Nichols Arboretum) is one of my favorite spots on campus because it is both calm and lively at the same time. It's a great place to just get lost and wander or hang out with friends. I like to go on runs​/​walks through the arb, read​/​study, and have picnics with friends. You can also catch people playing volleyball or even fishing. There are so many corners to tuck into that it feels never ending and it's the best place to remind myself of why UM has such a great community.
