Hi, I’m Katherine! I’m a sophomore studying Business Economics and a Varsity Track and Field athlete. I moved to Chicago all the way from San Diego, California, and it's been quite the change of scenery, especially when winter hit for the first time. When I’m not in class, you can find me training at Crown Field House, studying at the Regenstein Library, or grabbing a coffee at one of the campus coffee shops. I love exploring Chicago whenever I get the chance, whether that’s visiting a museum, walking by the river, or visiting a different neighborhood. I’d be happy to show you around campus, share some of my favorite spots, and give you a real, behind-the-scenes look at what campus life is actually like at UChicago.

On campus, I've been part of the Women's Varsity Track and Field Team, written for The Chicago Maroon newspaper, and contributed to the Sliced Bread literary magazine. Off campus, I've interned at 7 Stars Ranch and YD3.

Describe your college experience

My transition to college has honestly been a great adventure. Coming from a public school in Southern California, I'll admit I had my worries. The weather and the cultural shift felt like a lot at first, but my teammates and new friends made Chicago feel like home almost right away. I dove into as many organizations as I could and found the ones I really love. While not every moment has been perfect, I've loved exploring the city and building memories here at UChicago.

Tip for future students

My biggest tip would be to join everything that interests you. You can always drop what doesn't end up being the right fit. I'd also say get out and explore the city. Go to museums, check out coffee shops, and make time for school events like sports games and music performances. There's so much to see and do, and getting out there is honestly one of the best parts of the whole experience.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been The Ancient Silk Road and World of the Indian Ocean. It was a small seminar of about fifteen students, and I loved how the professor structured the assignments around creative projects and presentations rather than just traditional papers and exams.

Career goals

After college, I'm hoping to go into sports business. I love the idea of turning my passion for athletics into a career.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is hanging out with friends, whether that's having a craft night, baking something together, or just watching a movie.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite place on campus is Harper Cafe, especially in the winter. It's connected to Harper Library, so it's the perfect cozy study spot, and in my opinion, they have the best chai lattes on campus.
