Outgoing CS + Econ student who’s always exploring something new
Hi! I’m a CS and Economics student who somehow always has something new going on. I’m really into drumming and rock climbing, and I’ve also tried everything from surfing and archery to backflip classes through UCSD Rec. You’ll usually find me climbing at OCC, getting something at MOM’s, exploring a new part of San Diego with friends, or convincing people to come along on some random plan. One of my favorite things about UCSD is how much there is to discover beyond just classes. I love meeting new people, showing friends around campus when they visit, and sharing the little spots, traditions, and experiences that made UCSD start feeling like home.

Describe your college experience
College has been a huge transition for me, especially in terms of independence and being able to figure out what I actually enjoy. One of the best parts has been genuinely finding my people and making friends who I know will be in my life for a long time. I’ve also loved how much there is to explore and try at UCSD. I’ve made a point of signing up for things I probably wouldn’t have done otherwise, like surfing, archery, and even backflip training through the recreation classes. A lot of those experiences have also been great ways to meet people outside of my classes. I’ve become really comfortable on campus and love showing it to friends whenever they visit. More than anything, college so far has taught me to put myself out there, try new things, and take advantage of the independence and opportunities I have here.
Tip for future students
Say yes to things, especially at the beginning. Some of my favorite experiences have come from trying things I had never considered before or going somewhere just because someone invited me. Take a rec class, join an organization, explore parts of campus you normally wouldn’t, and talk to people outside your usual circle. College is obviously about academics, but a huge part of it is the people you meet and the experiences you make for yourself.
Favorite class
MUS 15, the class focused majorly on analysis of horror films that we would watch in every lecture. Taking the class with two of my best friends made an already exciting class that much more fun, and I have never looked at any movie soundtrack the same since this class. It has truly changed my outlook on entertainment as a whole.
Career goals
I’m studying Computer Science and Economics, and after college I’d love to work somewhere that lets me combine both. I’m especially interested in problems where technology, business, and economics overlap, whether that ends up being in tech, finance, entrepreneurship, or something I haven’t discovered yet. One of the things I’m enjoying about college is having the freedom to explore different fields, so my biggest goal right now is to keep trying new things and eventually find work that is both challenging and genuinely exciting to me.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal free night would be exploring a different part of San Diego with friends or people I’ve just met. I love how completely different familiar places can feel at night, even somewhere you’ve been dozens of times can feel brand new. The Gliderport is a great example: after going there during the day so many times, I visited at night once and now it’s one of my favorite places to go. I’m always down to find a new spot, bring people along, and turn something random into a memorable night.

Favorite spot on campus
My two favorite spots are MOM’s Cafe and the Outback Climbing Center. MOM’s is somewhere I can always go to grab coffee, study, or just hang out with friends, while OCC is one of my favorite places to take a break from classes and do something active. They’re both places I’ve spent a lot of time at, and whenever friends visit UCSD, they’re usually two of the first places I show them.
