Cheerful Microbiology major with insider info on everything (shhhh)

Hiya! I'm Sarah, a microbiology major aiming for a career in clinical research. I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, but also attended high school in the Bay Area. I came to UCSD knowing basically no one, but it has become my home! I've explored every nook and cranny of campus, and you can count on me for sunset-watching locations. If I'm not out hiking and taking photos with my camera, I'm probably stuck in the Medical Campus the running lab experiments, illustrating graphics for games, overseeing club meetings at Geisel Library, organizing dinner parties, or exercising at Canyonview. There are so many cool spots and opportunities across campus, and you can trust in me to lead you through all of them! I'm excited to tell you all about the best dining halls, nap corners, social hubs, research labs, dorms, and gym times. Don't hesitate to ask me all your questions! I won't hold back my unfiltered advice or insider tidbits I get from my network.

Describe your college experience

College is truly a liberating and refreshing environment! I found the transition very easy thanks to my suitemates and the ease of making friends. There are plenty of student organizations and activities on campus, and the beach/nature makes everything so much more beautiful. I found community and trustworthy friends quite easily, and this is the happiest I've ever been.

Tip for future students

Just talk to that person. Social norms fear you when you walk through that door. Don’t be afraid of intruding into a friend group, don’t hesitate to ask to eat lunch or study together, don’t say no to opportunities you truly want. Keep your door open!

Favorite class

Genome Diversity; it's super applicable to my research, and a really interesting topic in regards to ethical biotechnology.

Career goals

Clinical research in women's health and professorship

Keeling Rooftop. Best spot to watch the sunset over the sea, and very close to my dorm!
