Aerospace Engineering Major, Athlete, Musician. I can show you MSU has it all!

Hi, I’m Rence, and I’m an aerospace engineering student at MSU. I’m involved in engineering and athletics, and I’ve always enjoyed challenging myself and trying new things. Outside of school, I’m interested in music, languages, traveling, and exploring different creative projects. I’d describe myself as outgoing, curious, and driven, and I really enjoy meeting new people and hearing about their experiences. I’m excited to show you around campus, answer any questions you have, and give you an honest perspective on what it’s like to be a student at MSU!

Describe your college experience

The campus itself was enough for me to pick MSU, it's such a beautiful and welcoming campus. It's the environment you see in the movies, the students playing in the grass or doing homework or reading, the squirrels coming to say hi, I never could imagine myself at another school. My other favorite aspect of MSU that has added to my overall experience is the actual people that I can do these sorts of activities with. The people that come to MSU are here to learn and to make life-long friendships and I have been blessed for that to be the case for me as well.

Tip for future students

Getting a routine in early, regardless how flexible you allow yourself to be within that routine. Having infinitely more free time than high school is a gift and a curse. If you refuse to prioritize schoolwork for the little time every day that you have to, it will become difficult to enjoy your actual free time. It's added unnecessary stress. If you don't like having a planner, like me, having a set time to do schoolwork every day may be more than enough. In my case, Either slotting time in between classes or after class for the day for just a couple hours of dedicated work keeps me caught up if not ahead and allows me to have those free nights to make those life-long memories. It also makes sure even as an Engineering major that I can even have most weekends completely off and to myself.

Favorite class

Absolute favorite class was my CAD class ME 280 or my ITL 102. The ME 280 class was a super hands on course covering NX and giving me a true understanding of 3D design and modeling. ITL 102 was another fantastic class also because of the hands on application with speaking in class everyday and actually learning to speak the language outside of the classroom.

Career goals

After college I'm looking to get into either aero-defense or space exploration. I want to eventually create my own company to scale and want to travel and invest. Always learning.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Whether it's staying in the dorm and spending time with people, going out to play pick up soccer, or going around and continuing to meet people and discover new parts of campus, every night I have free is a top tier memory. And I think those memories are what make college worth it at the end of the day. I think MSU offers the opportunities to make those memories, and the students make sure to experience college life to the fullest.

Favorite spot on campus

The new recreation center is one of my absolute favorite places to spend my free time. There is so much to do and experience for the first time. The new rock wall, for example, during spring 2026 I spent the last couple weeks trying out rock climbing and now that I'm coming back in the fall I went and bought my own climbing equipment because I was able to discover that new passion. I think regardless of physical capabilities, the rec center has uncovered new experiences for so many students.
