Bioengineer + Dancer @ UPenn

Hi, I'm Iris! I'm a a Ben Franklin Scholar studying Bioengineering with a minor in Engineering Entrepuernship going into my second year. Outside of class, I'm heavily involved with dance! I'm vice president internal of Pan Asian Dance Troupe as well as a member of Penn Chinese Dance Club. I'm also a part of both consulting and medical device clubs as well as doing research with CHOP. Last summer, I was a campus tour guide, so I know everything that you logistically need to know about campus and applications. HOWEVER, I can also give you insider knowledge to the best resources at Penn, from everything the library REALLY offers and all the Phily gems (and discounts) as well! I'm super excited to show you all that Penn has to offer. Come with questions, curosity, and a BIG appetite.

Describe your college experience

I love my college experience so far. It's truly allowed me to blend all my interest together and balance out social life and work. There are infinite opportunities here in Philly beyond just academics and career as well. I live to explore the city in my free time with its amazing food scene and history.

Tip for future students

Be passionate and true to yourself. Don't go after things everyone else does just because its popular. I wish I stuck to my values more when exploring opportunities. It saves you both time and energy.

Favorite class

Existential Despair: It's a reading class where all you do is read about sad books for 7 hours and discuss it with your class. It was highly experimental, and I live for that. I love dthe professor, the other students, the books we read. I found so much meaning through the texts and the conversations that it changed how I see connections with other people and the world.

Career goals

I hope to work in the biotech industry.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Hanging out with friends, probably cooking and watching a movie, then yapping until questionable hours.

High school or secondary school

Winston Churchill High School

Favorite spot on campus

I love the biopond. There's turtles, toads, and koi fish. It makes you forget that you are in a large city!

Meeting point

Outside the entrance to Class of 1920 Commons on the University of Pennsylvania campus
