Passionate double major who knows all about campus resources

Hey! My name is Crow, and I'm an incoming Junior. I'm a low-income, first generation college student double majoring in Philosophy and Religious Studies who absolutely loves it here. I'm originally from Riverside California, but after coming here, I never want to leave the beach! I love exploring campus and nearby cities, whether that's finding the best bathroom on campus (Bren Hall, 4th floor, by the way) or the most hidden thrift store in a 10-mile radius. I'm also part of a club called the National Residence Hall Honorary, an Honors student, and in an awesome research program called the McNair Scholars. If you're interested in undergraduate research opportunities, I'm your person! I'll answer every question you have about UCSB honestly, since prospective students deserve to know what they're getting into. Whether you're interested in the best dining hall, what residence hall you should live in, or which classes you should never take, I've got answers ;)

Describe your college experience

UCSB not only has a great campus and great weather, but I've met some amazing people here. There's a few professors who aren't great, but there are even more who are dedicated to student success and who are genuinely passionate about what they teach. This is also one of very few colleges that has amazing opportunities for undergraduates looking to do research.

Tip for future students

It isn't all about what you major in; it's about the people you meet and the connections you make. Your high school friendships might not last, and that's okay. Don't force yourself to keep them if you're moving in opposite directions. Do as much as you can! Join clubs, take advantage of free resources, talk to your professors, but also have fun! You can party and be a book worm---it's all about moderation.

Favorite class

Metaphysics with Dan Korman; the class was structured in a fun way, and the topics we discussed were supremely interesting.

Career goals

I plan to pursue a Masters and a PhD in religious studies and become a professor.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Chilling in my room reading, crocheting, or playing a video game.

High school or secondary school

Elsinore High School

Favorite spot on campus

Campus Point Beach. It's a great beach if you're looking for shells or to see some animals, and I used to walk to it all the time when I lived in the residence hall nearby.
