UMich Mechanical Engineering Student | Here to answer your specific questions
Hi! I’m Bryan, a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. I’m a pretty hands-on person, so you’ll usually find me working on some kind of project, whether that’s building things with Baja SAE, figuring out how to make a part actually fit, or spending way too much time trying to understand an engineering problem. You’ll usually catch me somewhere on North Campus, either working on something, hanging around the Wilson Center, or posted up on the third floor of the Duderstadt by the window. I’m also always down to grab food, explore a new spot around Ann Arbor, or convince someone that my favorite breakfast is, in fact, eggs. I genuinely like discovering the little corners of campus that you don't notice at first. I’d be happy to show you my favorite study spots, the places I go when I need to escape engineering for a bit, some underrated food spots, or just give you the honest inside scoop on what life at Michigan is actually like. Come with questions — the more random, the better.

Describe your college experience
My transition to college was different from most. I got lucky and was able to attend an all-expenses-paid summer program at Carnegie Mellon. There, I learned the ropes of moving in, so when it came time to move into my actual college, UMich, the transition was very smooth. Nevertheless, I understand everyone's transition will be different based on their experience and background.
Tip for future students
College is the gateway to individual freedom, allowing students to do whatever they want. With this comes responsibility, as well as understanding yourself and welcoming change or new experiences. College is the place to learn about yourself—your personal strengths and weaknesses, both academically and socially. Moreover, college is a place that brings together like-minded people, and it is your job to welcome those individuals because that's how you learn more about yourself. With that said, academically, college is hard. Time management and priorities need to be set both with others and within yourself.
Favorite class
ME240: Dynamics and Vibration was not only my favorite class, but also the most applicable one to daily life. Things around us are always moving, on both a micro and macro level. Because of this, understanding and predicting movement is incredibly important and interesting.
Career goals
After completing my undergraduate degree, I aim to pursue a career in the automotive or aerospace industry. I am passionate about bringing creative ideas to life—turning concepts into detailed technical drawings and applying hands-on skills developed during my college education. Specifically, I hope to improve efficiency in automotive components like braking and suspension systems, while also exploring kinematics and propulsion systems in aerospace engineering.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night is to gather my friends from Baja, take the bus to Central, and eat at Sadako Japanese Restaurant. They have some of the best sushi, and having that time off from work and school just to debrief with my close friends is what makes the night unforgettable.

Favorite spot on campus
Central Campus: The Diag! You see people playing football or frisbee when it's a warm day. If you are lucky, you will see your friends or classmates having a picnic, and they will sometimes ask you to join! The Diag is the centerpiece of UM- it's where everything happens. North Campus: The FRB or the Robotics Building. The FRB is the most attractive and modern building on North Campus. You can see some of the labs surrounding the bright yellow circular staircase. Moreover, because of its awesome interior design, it allows us as students to study and network comfortably.

Bryan was the perfect tour guide for us. My son is interested in Engineering and Brian gave us a very through tour of both campuses and provided loads of insight into life at the university, the clubs, and the application process. He was very generous with his time and the information provided. Thanks Bryan!
