Outging Nanoeng major highly involved in clubs, internships, and study abroad.

Hey there! I'm Michael. A third-year Nanoengineering major and Physics minor. I'm from out of state, and when I first got here, my main survival strategy was practically living at the library and figuring out exactly how much caffeine I could consume without people judging me. Now, this campus has truly become my home. If I'm not studying at the library, you'll find me walking around campus with friends, enjoying the lookout spots all over campus, or heading down to the beach. I've managed to explore just about every corner of this school, and there are so many great spots to see and clubs to join. From student orgs to labs to internships, this school really offers so much. I even got to do a study abroad to France (mostly because I heard the croissants are better, but please don't tell my advisors). I'd love to show you around, help you find your own hidden gems, and help you navigate all the different aspects of the school from fun clubs to confusing class schedules.

Describe your college experience

I had a great transition to college. San Diego is a great area, and the campus is beautiful. I also really love my major, minor combo and find all the classes super interesting which helped with the transition. I'm also an out-of-state student but was still able to really connect with the school life and make a lot of freinds through all the clubs and my roomates.

Tip for future students

1) Join a lot of clubs and join them early on. But not only academic clubs, join a lot of social clubs too. 2) Plan out your classes early and work with your academic advisor. 3) The school offers lot's of opportunities for finding internships and study abroads. Take advantage of those.

Favorite class

Nano 104. It's the nanoengineering introduction to quantum mechanics and its applicaitons. The content is insanely interesting and introduced me to many different applications of the technology.

Career goals

I plan to go to grad school for engineering. After that I would like to go into industry.

Favorite spot on campus

There is this one outside sitting spot next to Minerva's cafe. It has a beautiful view of the city and overlooks the forest right next to campus. Not many people know about it and that building doesn't have many classes so you can be at the lookout by yourself and just enjoy it.
