Sophomore Pre-Law Student at the University of Michigan

Hi! My name is Kyle Railton, and I'm a current Sophomore at the University of Michigan. I am a part of multiple on campus organizations including a pre-law fraternity and a consulting club, and have multiple UMich jobs as well--one as an alumni fundraiser and one as a sustainability intern for Michigan Dining. In my free time I love to work out, run, spend time with friends, read books, and play violin.

Describe your college experience

Transitioning to college was scary at first, but has been a great experience. I love having independence but still structure to my schedule and day-to-day life, and there is so much to do and explore in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area.

Tip for future students

Get involved in extracurriculars, whether trying new things or in what you know you are interested in. It is perfect to find people with similar interests to you and give yourself more to do throughout the week.

Favorite class

My favorite class was a freshman year seminar in international studies. It was the best class to have in my first semester of college because everyone was in the same boat as me, which helped foster natural communication and build friendships.

Career goals

I hope to go to law school and become a lawyer, though I have no idea what type of law most interests me yet.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Doing something with my friends, whether it is staying in and playing card games or going out to eat.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the hill. My freshman year dorm was Stockwell, so I was on the hill next to many other freshman dorms, and had a great view looking out on the campus/city. Since I was so close to other dorms, it meant I was always running into new people and there were activities to do in the beginning of the year which helped me become more comfortable and adjust quickly.
