Junior biochemistry major who has mastered the ins and outs of UMass Amherst
Helloooo! My name is Megan and I am a junior majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology who is also pursuing the pre-med track. I am also apart of a unique certificate program at UMass called iCons, where I am studying AI and the future of work. Part of my reason for joining this program is so that I can learn how to best outcompete the bots in the future! When I'm not studying for 1 million exams, you can catch me in the dining hall for sure. Grillo's pickles even visited our campus, which was legit one of the best days ever for me. I also love staying active, so I'm also in the gym pretty frequently. Outside of those activities, I love hanging out with my friends as well! When I first toured UMass, I thought it had a ginormous campus, but now after being on the campus for almost three years, I am confident I can get place to place with my eyes closed. I would be more than happy to share the inside scoop about campus life, and any other questions you may have!

Describe your college experience
I will say that UMass Amherst definitely helped me transition smoothly from high school to college life. From orientation to welcome week, I was able to develop long-lasting friendships just due to the mere amount of activities that the university planned. Additionally, there are so many clubs active on campus, so there will definitely be a club that will peak your interest. Greek life was never something that I thought I would get involved with, but ever since rushing a multi-cultural sorority, campus has never felt more like home. UMass Amherst has also helped me feel more confident in my academic capabilities as well, since I was selected to become a teaching assistant for an introductory biology class my freshman year!
Tip for future students
Be proactive! Not everything in life comes to you when your mouth is closed, but you need to be verbal especially if you want something bad. Reach out to that friend again from orientation, go to your professors office hours to build that relationship, and most of all be grateful for everything!
Favorite class
Organic Chemistry II. This class was my favorite because of both the professor and the environment of the class. I was surrounded by students who shared the same academic curiosities as I was, and was eager to take-in the valuable information the professor taught. I also strengthened and developed numerous friendships from this class, which I will say can be rare in college.
Career goals
My dream is to go to medical school where I will specialize in dermatology.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night is definitely catching up with friends, which looks like going out to eat and then winding down by watching a movie.
High school or secondary school
Lexington High School
Favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot on campus would definitely be the campus pond, especially when it gets warmer outside. There are lawn chairs that are dispersed around the perimeter of the pond, and I love to study and get a little tan when the weather is warmer.
Meeting point
Minuteman Monument on the University of Massachuseets Amherst campus
