Bioengineering/Computer Science Junior
Hi, I'm Taryn! I'm a junior at Stanford studying bioengineering and computer science. I'm interested in attending graduate school and diving into the medtech industry down the road. I've had the chance to work in several research labs across both the School of Engineering and School of Medicine. Next summer, I'll be diving into management consulting. I love playing pickleball/tennis/squash and going on adventures outside of campus to froyo, food, and hikes.

Describe your college experience
My transition to Stanford was both exciting and a bit overwhelming at first. Going from a familiar environment to being surrounded by so many driven, accomplished people took some adjustment. But that same energy quickly became what I love most about being here. Stanford has an incredible culture of innovation and drive. The people here are always doing amazing things and opening your eyes to new opportunities you hadn't even considered. Whether it's a classmate building a startup on the side, a professor sharing groundbreaking research, or an outside speaker challenging the way you think, there's a constant sense that big ideas are within reach. Meeting new people has been one of the most valuable parts of my experience so far. From fellow students, professors, researchers, and guest speakers, everyone here has pushed me to think bigger and get more comfortable putting myself out there.
Tip for future students
It's going to feel overwhelming in those first few months but go out and do things that you're nervous about (try a new class, get lunch with new people, go to speaker talks, join clubs)
Favorite class
Medical Device Innovation, taught by an Stanford GSB alum who worked as an engineer in several medtech startups and in VC. Brought in many different speakers from many perspectives including people at the FDA, inventors, investors, and engineers.
Career goals
Consutling/medical school/medtech
Ideal way to spend a free night
Playing tennis or pickleball with friends, then heading out for froyo afterward
High school or secondary school
Deerfield Academy
Favorite spot on campus
Engineering quad. It has a Coupa Cafe for snacks, lots of cool buildings to study in, and the best outdoor spaces for hanging out.
