History & Journalism Double Major | Campus Life & DC Internships
Hi! I'm Phoebe, a junior at GW studying journalism and history. One of the reasons I chose GW was because of its incredible location in the heart of Washington, where opportunities are truly everywhere. Outside the classroom, I've been involved with GW-TV and GW theatre. I've also interned with Congressman Jerry Nadler and The Capital Jewish Museum, experiences that have helped combined my interests in history, public service, and communications. I'd love to answer your questions and share what it's really like to be a student at GW!

Describe your college experience
Coming to GW was a big adjustment, I had never been away from home before, but I quickly found that the city became an extension of campus. Being in DC has allowed me to gain hands-on experience through internships while meeting people with a wide variety of interests and career goals. I've enjoyed exploring different academic interests, getting involved on campus, and taking advantage of opportunities that simply wouldn't be available at many other universities. Every semester I've become more confident and have found new ways to make GW feel like home.
Tip for future students
Don't be afraid to get involved early, even if it's outside your comfort zone. Some of the best opportunities come from simply putting yourself out there, and GW makes it easy to connect with people and organizations doing amazing work.
Favorite class
My favorite class has been Survey of American Art with Katherine Markoski. I've always loved history, but this class showed me how art can tell the story of a nation just as much as documents or speeches can. We explored how artists reflected major moments in American history and how art shapes our understanding of culture and identity. It completely changed the way I look at museums, and it's one of the reasons I'm interested in pursuing a career in public history and museum work.
Career goals
After college, I hope to build a career in public history, museum work, or communications, helping make history more engaging and accessible to the public.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal night is grabbing dinner with friends in Georgetown or the West End, walking around the monuments after sunset, and then relaxing with a movie back at my dorm.
High school or secondary school

Favorite spot on campus
One of my favorite places on campus is Kogan Plaza. It's always lively, whether students are studying, eating lunch, or attending campus events, and it's a great place to meet friends between classes. I also love that it's right in the middle of campus so it really captures the energy of student life at GW.
