George Washington University Student

Hi, my name is Gianluca and I'm a sophomore at George Washington University. I'm studying psychology on the pre-health track, with the goal of specializing in counseling, while also minoring in marketing. I love biking and walking, and some of my interests include cars, photography, video editing, and building Legos. I'm down to talk anything and everything GW, and I'm excited to meet you!

Describe your college experience

College was not an easy transition, but I've gone through more personal growth in just two semesters than I have in my entire life. It's a great time to learn how to be independent, build good studying and work habits, and start building your own authenticity as an adult. I'm realizing how character building college has been so far, and I can't wait to go back!

Tip for future students

Pace yourself. Not everything is going to be easy or perfect, but as soon as the hard parts come they'll go away just as fast. Trust the process. BE YOURSELF. Do not change yourself to be someone that you think other people will like. You will meet people who love the REAL YOU. Take care of your friends. It's hard being alone, and you want to have a shoulder to lean on!

Favorite class

My favorite class has been one of my honors program philosophy classes, called Authenticity. This class centers around taking apart the way humans act and synthesizing several ancient philosophies to understand how to actualize our own authentic selves. This class was my favorite because I find that I keep coming back to these philosophies even after leaving the class, integrating them into my daily life and continuing to build my own authenticity.

Career goals

After college, I'm thinking of jumping right into grad school, and I am hoping to attend a Ph.D program to earn a doctorate. After graduate school, I would like to become a clinical psychologist specializing in counseling for adolescents and young children.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Being in D.C, the easy answer is a nighttime monument walk. The monuments are less than a mile away from GWU's Foggy Bottom campus, and are exceptionally beautiful at night. They're also much less crowded at night, meaning it's a nice, quiet activity for a free night. Another more niche option is to take the metro---GWU students get free access to the metro, and it's highly recommended that you use it. You can take the metro to the Tyson's Corner mall, to visit friends at other schools like Catholic University or American, or out into cute neighborhoods in Virginia and Maryland to go shopping or eat dinner!

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the Science and Engineering Hall. It's a great place to study---quiet, large, and modern, with an environment that makes you want to lock in. I've had some great lock-ins there, but also lots of fun with friends that built truly beautiful relationships through academics and camaraderie.
