Alexis Hongsukpant (Public Health student at Milken)

Hi everyone! I am an incoming freshman here at GWU coming from Morristown New Jersey! I am super excited about the various outlets for student life. I love to lift, go on study dates with friends, experience all different types of music, and travel! I originally was committed to a different university but was led by many of the major features of GWU that re-guided me to this university! I am super excited to share all the fascinating parts of this school that led me here!

Describe your college experience

I was deeply anxious about changing universities, but as I discovered the incredible campus and welcoming community here, my doubts vanished. I truly grew to love it more each day. My class was the first to experience the new three day orientation, where I made instant friends and fell in love with this city. The biggest shift has been entering an environment where i was surrounded by peers that are so clearly independent and brilliant. Being around people this driven is incredibly inspiring. I am thrilled to continue growing here, both as a student and as a person. George Washington University is a rare, transformative experience that anyone should be proud to be a part of.

Tip for future students

My biggest tips are to pay attention to all the resources given to students by the university. All the materials we get are very intentional, some days it can feel like a heavy load, but it is all super worth it in the end.

Favorite class

Even though I have yet to start class, I am extremely fascinated by the offered Guided Electives. Not only are there so many choices, which were not offered at the high school level, but the courses are so specific. A lot of the guided electives offered in my school (Milken) are small, conversational courses. I am very excited to be apart of an intimate academic enviroment.

Career goals

I hope to pursue pre-medicinal track during my time in undergrad here at GWU. So with that being said, my goal is to use this beautiful city around me to my advantage, get various job opportunities, rack up experience, and move on to medical school.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night is to spend the day being productive, perhaps going to the gym and getting ahead on some classwork. Then ideally my friend and I meet up to go into the city for a fun night out!

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus, ironically, is the Peet’s Coffee across from the bookstore. I first tried Peet's when I traveled to California at the very start of my college touring experience. Since we don’t have Peet’s coffee in the tri-state area, that first taste really stuck with me. Later on, when I was deeply conflicted about which college to choose, I spent hours talking it over with the aunt who had taken me on those California tours. Despite all the tension in my mind, the endless pros and cons lists, and the tears I shed over the decision, she simply looked at me and said, “Well… George Washington has a Peet’s on campus.” Now, whenever I walk past it, I can’t help but smile. :)
