Lawton Simms, Boston College (International Studies Major, Club Rugby)

My name is Lawton Simms and I am a senior at Boston College majoring in International Studies with minors in Spanish and Economics. I am a proud member of the rugby team and love the large team camaraderie. Although I am spent most of my life in Baltimore, MD, I have lived all over the U.S. and even abroad (Hong Kong). Outside of the classroom, I love going to Red Sox games and travelling with friends.

Describe your college experience

My three years at Boston College have been full of thrilling experiences in so many different areas. I love the sports atmosphere at BC (although we often aren't too good at football/basketball), as well as the academic focus and professional ambitions of the student body. The campus is incredible and just a short train ride away from downtown Boston, which I have grown to love. I just arrived back from my study abroad experience in Madrid, Spain. BC created an amazing program for me to immerse myself in local culture and learn more about Spanish history. As I enter my final year at BC, I continue to reflect on my experience and feel more and more eager to share it with prospective students.

Tip for future students

I wish I had met more students that were already attending the college, so that I could gain a more insider perspective on the school.

Favorite class

"History of the Vietnam War" has been my favorite class so far because of the professor's passion for the material and the wide spectrum of history it covered. Although the lecture held nearly 300 students, everyone was so engaged because of the style and content of the class.

Career goals

I hope to eventually attend law school and study international law. With a focus in international law, I hope to work for the State Department or in politics somehow.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal night starts with some sort of outdoor activity before it gets dark (pick-up basketball game, ect.), then going out to dinner with friends, and finally followed by watching sports until going to bed.

Favorite spot on campus

Hillside Cafe: This spot is a perfect combination of good food, social activity, and a good study spot. Also, the lower quad is just outside the front doors if you want to hang out with friends.
