Describe your college experience
Having finished my freshman year of college, I can confidently say it has been one of the most challenging things I have ever done. As a first-generation college student, I was consistently put in classes that challenged me, scenarios where I had to advocate for myself, and situations where I had to ask many questions. I have grown so much over this year and have done everything, proudly by myself. The transition was very hard personally, but through determination and grit, I pushed myself to talk to people, socialize, join clubs, and attend events, which ultimately led to gaining friendships, establishing a routine, and setting myself up for success.
Tip for future students
I wish I knew it was okay to ask for help, lean on others, and make connections with all kinds of people. I would recommend not skipping classes and studying extensively for your first tests; also, understand your limits and establish boundaries with others.
Favorite class
My favorite class so far has been my Healthcare in America Class. I was able to understand the American healthcare system and then compare it to other countries' health systems while learning why and how it became structured to today's system. I became more knowledgeable about health disparities and the systematic barriers put in place.
Career goals
I hope to go into the field of healthcare consulting or work at a healthcare startup abroad.
