Mechanical Engineering Student at MIT

Hello! I am Moni and I am a junior at MIT studying mechanical engineering. I currently live on campus in New House and I am involved in two dance teams, MIT Solar Car, and many cultural organizations on Campus. I love to go out with friends, sing at karaoke, and host friends in my dorm. I know about almost all the organizations on campus, so feel free to ask any questions about anything!

Describe your college experience

Transitioning from high school to college was smoother than I expected. There are many resources to help with the transition for academic and social life. The grading system for our freshman year makes it even easier as we can explore what MIT has to offer while not worrying too much about grades. Also, the upperclassmen are very kind and willing to give advice about classes and extracurriculars which helped me understand MIT.

Tip for future students

MIT has so many resources and you should take advantage and take classes that you like, join any clubs that you are interested in, and build connections and friendships outside of classes. This will help the heavy course load of MIT feel lighter as you progress through the school.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been 2.00 Intro to Product Design because it was my first hands-on class and we had full creativity to make carnival games. It was a great way for me to explore the basics of engineering.

Career goals

I hope to work in motorsports for a few years after college and then move into the corporate automotive space and work on electric vehicles.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is doing karaoke with friends and then side-questing around Boston and/or visiting the frats of MIT

High school or secondary school

Biotechnology High School

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the student center because I love all the different food options, the wellbeing lab, and the many dance spaces to practice!

Meeting point

Alchemist by Jaume Plensa Statue on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus
