Hey y'all! I'm Meg Avery, a junior at CU Boulder from Charlotte, North Carolina, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Journalism. I'm involved in Greek life and previously served as a CU Orientation Leader, so I love helping future Buffs get an honest look at campus life. Describe your college experience

My transition to Boulder was what I like to call "nervciting" (a mix of nervous and exciting). I was thrilled to start college but also nervous about moving so far from home and going from a small boarding school in Virginia to a large university. I quickly realized that you really can make a big school feel small. Joining Greek life, getting involved on campus, and connecting with other political science students helped me find an amazing community. Since then, I've found a balance between academics, campus involvement, and exploring Colorado. Serving as a CU Orientation Leader, making lifelong friends, and discovering my career goals have made my college experience incredibly rewarding. Looking back, I'm so grateful for how much CU Boulder has helped me grow, and it truly feels like home.

Tip for future students

1. Say hi to everyone! Whether it's in your dorm, a club, or class, you never know where you'll meet your best friends. 2. Build a routine that works for you. Find a schedule you'll actually enjoy and be able to stick with. 3. Go on adventures! College is about more than academics. Explore, make memories, and take advantage of everything around you. 4. Give yourself grace. College is a time to grow, and it's okay if you don't have everything figured out. Nothing in life is linear.

Favorite class

My favorite class at CU Boulder has been Ideas for Social Change. It was a small seminar of about 12 students, so every class felt more like a conversation than a lecture. We explored topics like social movements, power, and rhetoric while learning from each other's perspectives. I left the class even more excited about studying political science. It challenged me to think differently, ask better questions, and reminded me why I want to make a positive impact through my career.

Career goals

I'm still figuring out exactly what path I want to take, and I think that's part of the fun of college! Right now, I'm interested in either going to law school or pursuing a career with the U.S. Department of State. No matter where I end up, I hope to build a career in public service that challenges me, helps others, and allows me to make a meaningful impact.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night starts with dinner at Postino on Pearl Street with my best friends, followed by frozen yogurt at Ripple with way too many toppings. Then we'd head back to my apartment, pile under fuzzy blankets, and watch a great movie. The only thing that could make the night better would be if I could magically teleport my parents (and my cat, Stevie Nicks) to Boulder to join us.
