Experienced Drexel University Senior

Hi! My name is Jamie! I am a senior at Drexel who lived on campus for two years and frequents campus multiple times a week. I am familiar with almost all of the different buildings on campus, having attended classes in many, frequented others as study spots, explored as a freshman, and worked in almost every dorm. I have lots of valuable insights to share and knowledge to pass on that I wish someone would have told me as an incoming freshman. This is a lovely campus that has lots to offer, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would love to show you around!

Describe your college experience

I'll be honest, at first my transition to campus was tough, lots of students who go far from home can feel stressed, and I have struggled with anxiety, it is a big change, but I promise it is worth it, my life changed for the better once I began exploring and meeting new people, I have learned so much from my professors here and made amazing connections and friendships from my time at co-op and in the dorms, my mother likes to say that after she dropped me off at my dorm, she was sure she would be back to pick me up within a few months, and now she cannot believe how confident I am and how much I have grown. I have met the kindest, strongest, most hard working people here across the city, I have learned about different cultures and ways of thinking, and, while I admit I was unenthusiatic about school growing up, Drexel has turned me into someone who is excited to go to class every day, the professors here are amazing and the culture is truely one of ambition

Tip for future students

Many classroom buildings allow you to use empty ones as study or meeting spaces, just make sure the room isnt needed by anyone else while you are there, in the Lebow Buisiness building there are classrooms which display the times of classes and have whiteboards so that you can have productive and uninterupted study sessions, we also have a food pantry here for students and I highly recomend you leave campus and explore the city, my first year I was very nervous to, and I wish someone would have encouraged me to go p.s. the MFL trains are least busy around noon

Favorite class

Its hard to choose! I loved my contemporary social theory class because the proffessor was very engaging and creative, making a class that students typically don't enjoy into a favorite, and I loved my global studies classes because I got to learn from professors who traveled the world and created very unique and inspiring classroom experiences

Career goals

I hope to work in social services with people with disabilities

Ideal way to spend a free night

There is a cat park a little north of campus made for students to frequent which I love, if I had to make the perfect free night for myself, I would start there, I would also grab food on campus, there are many cheap and tasty options, then I would take some friends and find a new local spot to enjoy, whether it be a an outdoor space or indoor attraction or shop, being on a campus so easily connected to the rest of the city provides endless opportunities to explore the vibrant culture of the city, there are so many fun and unique places to check out, whether you like history, art, or are a social butterfly, there is something for everyone!

High school or secondary school
