Second year Marine Biology student excited to share about UW campus with you!

Hi my name is Sae and I'm a second-year pursuing a Marine Biology major and Quantitative Science minor. I'm involved with many organizations on campus like the Sisterhood Initiative, Planned Parenthood Generation Action, Yarn club, and Huskies for Reproductive Rights. Outside of school I like playing guitar, knitting, collaging, hammocking, and thrifting. As a Washington native, I have a lot of knowledge about activities in and around the UW campus!

Describe your college experience

Being raised in a small town I was extremely worried that Seattle would be too much of a jump but it was the thing I never knew I needed. Since being here I have made so many new friends and experienced feeling welcomed as my whole self in a community for the first time ever. I loved going to campus events like concerts, thrift pop ups, and even some a few science symposiums! I could not imagine my college experience anywhere other than here at the UW!

Tip for future students

I would tell students to say yes to everything and get used to doing things out of your comfort zone. Seattle has so much to offer in all aspects of life like career, entertainment, physical wellness, and creative expression! Going exploring is how I found my people and was able to playfully explore what I am interested in academically. You don't have to have everything figured out and you are allowed to try things!

Favorite class

I loved the introduction to Marine Biology course because the labs we had were some of the most interesting labs I have ever taken in my academic career. It was the right amount of rigor mixed with a fun hands-on aspect!

Career goals

I am hoping to pursue a masters and/or my PHD in marine sciences!

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love to go take my hammock to the park and watch the sunset with either a book or a knitting project and my headphones!
