Hello! My name is Jasmine, and I'm an incoming third-year at the University of Washington–Seattle, studying Public Health and Economics. As a campus tour guide with SchoolScoops, I want you to know a bit about who's showing you around! In my first two years here, I really pushed myself to try everything. I've been a part of various student groups, utilized so many different resources, and have asked A LOT of questions along the way. As a result, I have a lot of information to share and a lot of understanding for what it's like to be new here or still deciding. Describe your college experience

My transition to college was both exciting and stressful. I learned many meaningful lessons about building new relationships with people and gained a lot of foundational insight into how different relationships need to be nurtured: professional, friendly, roommate etc. I would say I was pretty active in my first year but I did struggle with finding my place and purpose on campus. In my second year I definitely defined my path a little bit more and found people who have allowed me to evolve as a person. I think finding mentors in different forms whether through new clubs, organizations, or campus collectives was really instrumental to my growth this second year. This campus can challenge you but it can be very rewarding if you know where to look for resources and enrichment opportunities. I've found that investing in different types of communities is the most fulfilling.

Tip for future students

Be adamant about finding mentors and older people you trust. There will be times where you inevitably feel confused or lost and in these moments, mentorship is extremely helpful and valuable. Whether this means joining an established club, forming personal relationships with faculty, or joining groups that facilitate relationships (ex: greek life or professional fraternities), I think it's one of the best investments to make.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been my Sociology 220 course. I really enjoyed this course because we frequently had discussions about pressing, relevant topics in a way that encouraged personal reflection. The professor was very engaged and students were always encouraged to participate and provide insight.

Career goals

I hope to work for a healthcare non-profit or in a state department of health. My current focus has been healthcare policy specifically as it relates to accessibility and affordability. I hope to incorporate both my economic and public health interests in a way that impacts healthcare coverage broadly.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Spending quality time with my friends whether that means gathering together to make dinner and watch a movie, or go out!
