Theorie: A fun and respectable Computer Science Major at UTampa

Hello. My name is Theorie and I'm a student at the University of Tampa. I'm very passionate about my school and studies while also enjoying spending time with other students. In my tour, I would not only show the amenities the school provides, but the welcoming atmosphere that drew me into becoming a student myself. Even though I wasn't living on campus during my first semester as a freshman, I still felt like a Spartan and saw UTampa as more than a school.

Describe your college experience

It was a completely different experience when I started my first semester as a college student, especially since I had started during the spring, rather than fall. Not only that, but I was a commuter student who didn't feel right joining a club or sorority despite having the desire. It didn't feel much different than high school, just that all my classes were in different buildings. Despite my circumstances, albeit minor ones, I never felt out of place or a fish out of water. I got to know my classmates, my professors, and more about the great school I chose. This time, I'm staying in the Barrymore, an off-site residence that's a part of UTampa.

Tip for future students

For those just starting out, don't feel pressured in joining a club or sorority in your first year. I felt the pressure before I realized that they're still going to be here next year and that I can get a feel of the campus.

Favorite class

My favorite class was AWR 101 because it was exhilarating to express my voice on a page (or document in my case). Even though some of the assignments were summaries, writing was a skill that I loved to. Not only that, but my professor was very kind and she helped me so much during the semester

Career goals

My goal is to be in the workforce, doing computer work like IT, before settling down with my future husband and future children.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I would mostly watch TV or take a nice walk outside.

High school or secondary school

My high school was Kempsville High School, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I was there for all 4 years of high school, unlike both middle school and elementary school where I moved in-between the school years.

Previous college

I didn't go to another college before UT, but I did have dual enrollment classes where it was under TCC, Tidewater Community College. Only my DE (dual enrollment) College Composition class (which is just Super English), needed direct access to the TCC database.
