Hi I’m Trenton, a 3rd year biology Major at the University of Washington. I’ve made a lot of memories here in Seattle so far, so I know a good amount about it, and can give you a good picture of what your life at UW can look like. I’m from Hawaii, so I can provide a unique perspective you may not find with other people, especially cultural differences, how to survive living away from family, and much more. Describe your college experience

So far, college has been great! I know some people talk about the “Seattle Freeze,” but I’ve found a way to completely avoid that and have made a lot of memories with so many people. It’s been a little rough living away from family for the first time in my life, but the support network I’ve built through the people I’ve met has really helped and shaped my college experience so far. Of course there’s the times I have to really sit down and study, but I try my best to balance fun and academics as much as I can, and so far I think I’m doing a pretty good job!

Tip for future students

Yes the school may be difficult, but if you have good people around you, they will help you in ways you would have never thought of before coming to college. All the different perspectives you are constantly surrounded by really help you gain a better worldview, as you are greatly shaped by the people you are surrounded by in many ways, such as work ethic, knowledge, and fun.

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been biology 200, the second course of the general biology series, introducing cell and molecular biology. This class really helped expose me to the inner workings of our body, and really confirmed my fascination with this field. All the topics were super interesting to me, and helped motivate me to study.

Career goals

I want to be a physician or be a researcher.
