Jasmine - Georgetown rising Junior

Hi! I'm Jasmine, a rising junior in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in math and minoring in Science Technology and International Affairs. At Georgetown, I'm involved in AFROTC, a fashion recycling campus organization called REUSE, I have a on-campus job working with event and technology services, and I play intramural volleyball when I have time. I went to high school 15 minutes away from Georgetown in Northern Virginia, so I know the area very well and I'm happy to give food reccomendations for after your tour.

Describe your college experience

My hometown is pretty close to Georgetown, so the transition wasn't too hard for me, but I haven't gone home as much as I expected to because every weekend seems to be filled with events. I always find something to do, whether it's Georgetown hosted or something out in DC. I'm a twin, so it was weird being separated from my built-in-best-friend but Georgetown is filled with clubs. There's an admittedly overwhelming amount of pre-professional clubs, but just as popular are clubs such as the famous Grilling Society, where all you do is grill hamburgers every Friday, so it was easy to make new friends.

Tip for future students

Georgetown professors are one of the best assets of the university; don't be afraid to attend office hours and connect with this resource. Georgetown is a Jesuit school, so Greek life isn't sponsored by the school and instead our fraternities and sororities are "clubs". You definitely still have the opportunity to join, about 10% of the student body is a part of Greek life, but the social life is heavily reliant on club events, which allows the student body to be super connected with each other.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been Problem of God, a core requirement class at Georgetown. It opens you up to so many different perspectives and my professor had the funniest and most interesting way of engaging students with his lectures.

Career goals

I hope to go into consulting or something in Data Science after I serve my four years in the Space Force.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love getting dinner with my friends and ranking it on the Beli app, then exploring DC's beautiful nightlife, however I enjoy staying on campus just as much, occupying one of the dorm common spaces to watch a movie with snacks from the student convenience stores.
