My name is Katelynne Wyckoff and I am currently attending the University of Washington Seattle. I am from Washington and love getting outside in any way I can, especially going hiking or going to the beach! I am an orientation leader for UW and have also dormed on campus, and I love exploring and finding new hidden gems around U-District and Seattle! Some of my hobbies include tennis, swimming, thrifting, listening to music, and hanging out with my cat :)

Clubs, organizations & involvement

I am a Virtual Orientation Leader and member of film club, and am working on getting involved with hiking club and tennis club! I also hope to find some environmental-focused community service opportunities next academic year.

Describe your college experience

I have loved college so far! I l instantly clicked with my roommates (I had seven last year, one of whom I previously knew) and that made my year so much more relaxing and fun! Dorm life was a lot of fun and connected me with some great opportunities, but I am also excited to live in an off-campus apartment next year and explore that. The academic aspect definitely took some adjustment in terms of study methods, but UW has a lot of resources such as CLUE tutoring that helps with that. I was a bit hesitant in terms of joining extracurriculars, but by the end of the year I had warmed up more and can't wait to get more involved during my next few years!

Tip for future students

Even though it is scary to get involved and the endless resources seem intimidating, it is completely worth it to put yourself out there in order to connect with peers with similar interests! I also strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of the public transportation and explore the city! Seattle has tons of cool places to explore in terms of city life and natural areas; I tried to get off campus somewhere new at least once a week!

Favorite class

I loved Envir 100! It was my first time taking an environmental science class and led me to start considering a major in the field. The professors were amazing, professional, and super engaging and the content was all really interesting. I enjoyed coming to lecture every day!

Career goals

I am considering whether or not I want to attend graduate school, but my hope is to do some sort of mathematical work in environmental applications such as with predictive models or sustainable energy.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I would ideally spend a free night getting dinner and ice cream with friends and heading to the beach to watch the sunset. Then, I would go home and make popcorn and watch Star Wars with my cat!
